It was exciting Last Sunday to consider the life of Thomas, the apostle of devotion. Loving the Lord with all your heart is a challenge and a joy that is beyond our abilities. Let this prayer of David in Psalm 63 serve to guide you in refocusing your perspective, refreshing your soul, and renewing your devotion! ~Pastor Ron
“O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water.” (verse 1)
Draw near to God declaring the barrenness and dryness of your soul, and your desire to be refreshed and renewed by His grace.
“I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory.” (verse 2)
David had a vision of God’s glory in His sanctuary. We can see also see God’s glory displayed through creation and through His word. Pray that God would help you to behold His glory, turning your attention from everything else to focus upon Him.
“Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you.” (verse 3)
Express your desire to find the true and highest satisfaction found in the Lord’s love, a love that is better than anything else in life. Thank and praise Him for His incredible love for you.
“I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands. ” (verse 4)
Worship is full heart brimming over. Pray that God would fill your heart with love, thankfulness, and joy, so that it would overflow in worship.
“My soul will be satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you.” (verse 5)
A starving man does not want food plus entertainment. A starving woman does not want food plus possessions. The only concern for those who are hungry is for food. Pray for a single-minded hunger and thirst for righteousness, so that you will be satisfied with God’s spectacular feast for your soul.
“On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night.” (verse 6)
Being so satisfied, David’s thoughts were continually of God, which led to even more joy and satisfaction. Pray that the Lord would enable you to likewise fix your eyes on Jesus.
“Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings.” (verse 7)
Even in trials, David could sing. Resist the temptation to focus on your afflictions and rejoice in God’s help and protection for you.
“My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me.” (verse 8)
In Genesis 2:25 the same verb “clings” is used to describe the close relationship of husband and wife. Pray that God would keep you close to Him, abiding in Him so that His right hand will uphold and sustain you.
