Romans 12:21 says,
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—His good, pleasing and perfect will.
This is a great challenge for believers—to resist the subtle, relentless conformity to the world’s values and be transformed by God’s truth and values. One way you and I have to make decisions about is in entertainment. What will we watch, what will we accept? I was stunned to read this review of a movie by a supposed believer on a Christian site: “I think this movie is extremely funny! Yes, it does have lots of cussing, some nudity, drug use, etc. but what movie doesn’t now a days!? I think it’s a must see.”
A “must see” movie with profanity, nudity, and other sins? Scripture is clear that there must not be any impurity among God’s people (Ephesians 5:3). Sin quenches the Spirit, which means forfeiting His power and fruit of joy and peace in our lives. And compromises weaken conviction, leading to further compromise and sin. We disregard this to our peril.
One tool in the fight for purity is a new service called VidAngel. This service streams movies and television shows for only a dollar, and allows you to filter out profanity, sensuality, nudity, and gore as you select.
May the Lord give us the wisdom and courage we need to live lives that are blameless and pure, so that we may be children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, shining like lights in the world as we hold forth the word of life (Philippians 2:15-16).
