God’s Peace Is Your Soul Guard

Philippians 4:1 says,

“in this way stand firm in the Lord, my beloved.”

What a wonderful word that we need to hear! People in our culture have unstable lives because of their struggles with anxiety, stress, anger, and other emotions. But as His child, the Lord doesn’t want you to live this way—He wants you to have emotional stability. How? Paul explains in the verses that follow:
Verse 2-3, resolve any conflict you have with someone that is thwarting love and harmony.
Verse 4, remember that your joy is found in the Lord, not in circumstances.
Verse 5, respond with graciousness to the faults and shortcomings of others.
Verses 6-7, rely on prayer to experience God’s peace when you are anxious and upset.
As you do that, the Lord promises that He will guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus. That word guard is a military term—if trust God, His peace will protect your heart and mind, guarding you from anxiety, fear, distress, and doubt. You will have the emotional stability the Lord wants you to experience. Isn’t that a great truth? You’ve heard of people who have bodyguards? You have something better—God’s peace will be your soul guard, protecting your heart and mind. What a wonderful promise to live in confidence and peace no matter what your circumstances. Proverbs 14:30 puts it this way,

“A tranquil heart is life to the body.”

May that be your blessing today as you live according to God’s word!
