When was the last time you read the opening chapters of the book of Acts? It’s thrilling to see God working through the early church, passage after passage recounting the striking joy and impact of these believers. What was going on? Why was everyone continually filled with awe (Acts 2:43)? Why were these Christians filled with gladness and praise (Acts 2:46-47), speaking “the word of God with boldness,” seeing many come to faith in Christ (Acts 4:31)? What was the secret of their being “of one heart and soul” with one another (Acts 4:32)? And is there anything that we can apply to experience that ourselves?
On the divine side, God’s sovereign purpose being fulfilled. But what do you see on the human side? You see a common theme from the very first chapter—these believers prayed together (Acts 1:14, 2:42, 4:24-31). And the Lord worked in a powerful, amazing way in and their lives.
I have said it time after time—I want to do more than just read of the wonder of God’s word, I want to live it out by God’s grace. Wouldn’t it be exhilarating to experience the Lord working this way in our lives together? This Sunday evening we have that opportunity. We are having a Gathering of Prayer in the church sanctuary starting at 6:00. I hope you can join us for this special time as we draw near to the Lord together as His people!
