I talked about producing fruits in my sermon this week. Philippians 1:11 reads, “Filled with the fruits of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.” The fruits of righteousness can only be produced in God’s children by the Lord Jesus Christ through salvation. We cannot produce fruits unless and until we are in a saving relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. John 15:4 states, “Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.” This is a key gospel truth that we need to remember and keep at the forefront of our mind. We need to look to Jesus. We need to turn our eyes upon Jesus. This is what Paul tells us in Philippians 1:11, that we are filled with the fruits of righteousness that come through Jesus Christ.
But does this mean that we are passive in the process of bearing fruit? No, we are to be active and we are to work at it by our obedience, by our discipline, and our hard work. This is what Paul states in Philippians 2:12-13, “Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.”
As someone said, we are not only to believe the gospel, but we are also to obey the gospel. Go preach the gospel. Go love one another and let your love abound more and more. Go bear fruit for His Kingdom.
