Do you have a heart for service? Peter 4:10
“ Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. “
In this verse Peter gets to the heart of service to one another. Peter does a wonderful job explaining that each one of us has been given a special gift by God for use in service to His people. “Given” not earned, is key to remember so that we will return this gift back to God by using it for its intended purpose. Each believer has a spiritual gift which builds up a person to serve in different capacities within the church and abroad.
The problem comes when we use the gifts for ourselves and not for others. This happens all too easy when life gets busy, or the day to day routines take over. We forget about the higher calling on our lives and the gifting that God has placed upon us. We find it easy to ask for a pass when it comes to serving. And we miss out on the joy and blessing that comes in doing what the Lord designed us to do!
“So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith.”
I know we are all busy. But, when it comes to the volunteering to serve one another, nothing is more important to Christ. As our church grows, it has become more and more obvious that without volunteers the church stops growing and suffers from burning out the faithful few.
Let me conclude with this final thought from Matthew 23:10-11
“ Do not be called leaders; for One is your Leader, that is, Christ. 11 But the greatest among you shall be your servant”
So it is clear we have a Leader, what we need are followers!
May God bless you all, Pastor Jeff
